What is the difference?

Being a member of a super conference is being a member of a super conference.

One member will have the same status as another, same as same.

A cog in a machine. The same as any other program.

Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue.....all the same, under the same TV contract, getting paid the same amount, playing similar schedules, all grouped together.

Zzzzzzz. Boring.

Why would it matter if ND surrenders now versus in ten years?

Being in the collective will be the same no matter when that fate occurs.

How is it in "Notre Dame's best interest to be a conductor" and participate early in its own destruction by waving the white flag while the fortress walls still stand?

All that means is that the bastard ND haters and the conferences have won the realignment wars and ND has lost, completely.

(When ND joins a conference, it will be "regionalized" and that will negatively impact the national reach of ND football recruiting. In the long run that will lead to ND's decline to something resembling Nebraska status.)

Being independent is what made Notre Dame, well, Notre Dame, not being in a regional grouping of schools.

Without barnstorming and playing all over the country, gaining fans and recruits from coast to coast, being an independent, Notre Dame would still be a small Catholic school that most people never heard about.

The Big Ten rejecting ND way back when was the best thing that ever happened to ND football.

Now, everyone wants to force ND to be something else.

It seems the better course to renew ND's TV deal, stay independent as long as possible and enjoy a longer ride to Perdition.

ND joining a conference will impact my interest in ND football.

A big part of that interest for decades has been ND standing apart and alone versus the conferences, fighting back against those who wanted ND to conform, confounding those folks and pissing them off by winning and doing its own thing, playing a national schedule and honoring its past and its traditions.

I have little interest in watching ND play for conference titles or for bowl positioning within a monstrous "super conference" and a corporate, made for TV structure.

I will still watch but a lot of the passion will be gone, like air out of a leaking tire.
